This is my flat plan for my poster.
I have put the name of the film, "The Uncured" at the top of the page so that it is the first thing that you see, this will be in a dark red font which has connotations of blood, danger ect. This will be good for making people realise what genre my film actually is, this relates to my textual analysis research on posters. As you can see i have made the name of the film "The Uncured"the full width of the page, this again is so that people will notice it straight away.
The picture is a kind of medium shot of the main protagonist and antagonist with a party scene going on in the background which relates to my audience research as the age group is 15-25 and they will be able to relate to "partying" the most. The fact that i am using a mid shot shows the expressions on the faces of the characters which lets us know how they are feeling at this moment in time, it helps us get a better understanding of the genre also when we see the antagonist because we can see exactly what she is wearing which will be a blood stained hospital gown. In the shot we will also be able to see the party going on in the background which suggests the minor characters don't realise how bad the situation is as they are all drinking/ smoking ect and having a good time, this will make it more tense and the poster will have a better effect.
Another thing i have used is a 5 star rating and a quote underneath it from a film magazine company which says "Scariest film of the decade" which is a good advertising technique as it makes the film sound good before it has been watched by people who read the poster. Also the way it is worded hints on the genre and also makes more people want to go and see it. There are other quotes at the bottom of the poster which have the same effect. In my textual analysis research this was used on the posters i had looked at and analysed too.
I have also used a professional look at the bottom of the poster too, as you can see there is a box shape in the middle at the bottom which will have the producers names and the director and actors names. This is used in every film poster and this is shown in my research also. I have also used logo's at the bottom to give a professional feel to it as it will have actual companies who have been involved in the film.
Also there is a tag line which will be "Sometimes you hear but can't see...". This builds tension and also gives and extra insight into what the film will be about. Also it is placed directly below the picture so it will be one of the first things that is seen therefore people are going to be intrigued by what it means therefore going to watch it.
At the very bottom of the page there is a website and the date of when it comes out. These two things are very effective as the both give the viewer a chance to find out extra information on the film buy going onto the website and also they now roughly know the date of when it comes out but i have put "fall 2012" because that doesn't give an exact date so again that contributes to the tension of it coming out.
This is my flat plan for my Magazine cover.
AS you can see i have placed the Mast head at the very top of the page covering the full width so that peoples attention is drawn towards it straight away. This will be in a blood red colour so that it gives an idea of genre and also it connotes dander and blood which are key aspects to a horror film/
I have also used a Skyline above the mast head which says "win free tickets!" which will draw attention the the reader because they are essentially getting something for free and this will make more people want to buy the magazine therefore more people will notice the film also. This will be in white to stand out more from the dark background.
Another thing i have used is a Puff which is at the very bottom of the page. Naturally people see the top of the page and read down it, therefore this goes at the bottom so that even at the end of a page there is still some good information and it is interesting to the reader. This says "a look back into the best of horror" this will appeal to wider audience as it will also show older horror films as well as the recent ones.
The main Picture will be situated directly in the centre of the page making it the main focus of the magazine. The picture will be of the antagonist stood looking directly at the camera giving the reader a relationship with this character already, it makes them feel like the character is actually looking at them. I have chosen the protagonist because she shows more of the genre that any of the other characters. She will be wearing a blood stained hospital gown which will be quite bright colours which will stand out from the background.
The Film Title will be placed in the centre across the picture. I have put it on i diagonal to show the uneasiness of the film within the title. This will be in a black font which will stand out on top of the brightly coloured costume of the antagonist.
I have used three Sell lines on my front cover to keep the cover interesting to the readers. The first one says "Poster exclusive to watch magazine" which makes the reader immediately want to purchase the magazine because they will have posters no-one else will have because they are exclusive to this particular magazine. This will be in white to stand out from the background and the "watch" part will be the same as the title for continuity. The second sell line says "Unseen images from paranormal activity" this uses a very popular film which has the same age range audience as what i am trying to achieve, therefore people reading this magazine will look at paranormal activity and then they will see my film which will then get more popularity. The final sell line says "Free tickets to see uncured and also an exclusive interview with the cast" everything in this sell line will appeal to the reader as it is giving away free stuff and also getting a personal interview with the cast which will make them feel like they know things about the cast that no one else does.
I have used the Blood splatters to show the genre of the film and also to make the sell lines stand out even more as they are placed on top of them. They also bring character to the magazine and make it look more attractive to the reader therefore making them want to read more.
